A Global Hybrid Congress for Occupational Therapy Leaders
The 18th WFOT International Congress is the global flagship meeting of the World Federation of Occupational Therapists, convening occupational therapists, assistants, students, educators, and researchers from across the world every four years. In 2022, the Congress was staged as a hybrid event in Paris, France, with simultaneous online participation through the Cvent platform, enabling both in-person and remote attendance. Delegates participated in plenaries, concurrent sessions, and educational programming in multiple rooms, with live interpretation required in both English and French across all content streams.

Our Integrated Solution
The Congress Rental Network Remote Simultaneous Interpretation app powered by Interprefy was the perfect solution for this event. Using the app, an event token with nine rooms was set up. Each room had both English and French Interpretation available, with interpreters working via the software's backend from home offices.
A Congress technical producer travelled to Paris to manage the project and work alongside four local technicians from IS Communication, our French partner company from the Congress Rental Network.
The team worked to manage source capture video and audio to Interprefy, moderate interpreters, manage language feeds, assist with streaming to Cvent and ensure the best delegate experience. Ultimately, hundreds of delegates accessed the live interpretation feeds through the app at any time without any issues. Over the duration of the multi-day event, nearly 5000 connections to the app were made.
Managing Hybrid & Multilingual Complexity
Delivering reliable multilingual interpretation within a hybrid, multi-room academic congress required agility and careful planning:
Remote Interpretation Across Multiple Rooms
With nine concurrent session spaces and sessions running both onsite and online, the project needed a robust, scalable interpretation infrastructure. The app-based RSI solution removed the need for physical interpreter equipment, enabling interpreters to work effectively from remote locations while providing high-quality audio to delegates everywhere.
User Adoption Without Dedicated Hardware
Ensuring delegates could easily access interpretation on their own devices was critical. The team developed clear setup instructions and on-site support to assist delegates with installing and using the interpretation app, resulting in smooth adoption across the hybrid audience.
Advancing Inclusive Global Participation
With the infrastructure provided by the Congress Rental Network Remote Simultaneous Interpretation App powered by Interprefy, interpretation feeds worked seamlessly. Each delegate, whether in person or online had full access to English and French options.
