The Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) hosted the 119th ABU mid-year Administrative Council Meeting, bringing together representatives from the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU). The event focused on key policy decisions, strategic initiatives, and collaborative projects vital to the Union’s continued growth. ABC’s objective was to deliver a high-quality, hybrid, multilingual event that met both its internal production standards and ABU’s strict language accessibility requirements.

Our Solution

Congress Australia designed and delivered a fully integrated audiovisual and AI interpretation solution tailored to ABC’s technical specifications. Thirty Bosch Wired Dicentis Microphones provided exceptional audio capture and allowed for clear, interactive delegate participation. Two Avonic CM93 PTZ cameras ensured flexible, high-quality video coverage. Our custom MVI PC supported the integration of video and microphone feeds, enabling seamless automatic camera switching and the addition of branded graphic overlays, including delegate organisations and the ABC logo.
To address the event’s multilingual needs, AI-powered interpretation and captioning were provided in nine languages. In-room delegates accessed interpretation through a combination of Interprefy AI simultaneous interpreting, Bosch microphones, and Bosch Digital Infrared headsets. Remote participants received the interpreted audio via Zoom’s interpreting feature. Congress Australia’s custom multi-Zoom workflow enabled all nine interpreted channels to be delivered to Zoom using a single Mac, greatly simplifying the setup and reducing equipment without compromising quality or reliability.
The system was installed the day before the event, leveraging Congress’ prior experience with similar setups at ABC Studios. Congress collaborated closely with ABC’s internal crew and Big Picture, who managed content switching, to ensure the event’s technical and visual success.

Maximising language integrations with minimal equipment:
Delivering AI interpretation and captioning for nine languages into Zoom, while minimising physical equipment, was achieved through Congress Australia’s multi-Zoom integration. This allowed multiple language channels to be fed into Zoom via a single Mac, resulting in a streamlined, reliable, and economical setup with minimal risk of technical issues.

​Real-time, reliable interpretation:
Providing low-latency, accurate interpretation to both onsite and remote participants required careful audio routing. Congress used the Interprefy routing panel and Dante audio network distribution to deliver real-time interpretation across all languages, ensuring seamless integration with the Bosch system, Zoom, and audio recordings.

Efficient, synchronised recordings:
Accurate recording of each language channel was achieved using Congress Australia’s custom multi-channel recording workflow, ensuring all channels were time-aligned, correctly labelled, and archived according to client requirements.
AI Speech Translation enabled real-time multilingual dialogue

Congress Australia delivered a seamless, highly effective multilingual event by integrating advanced microphones, cameras, and AI interpretation solutions. Delegates enjoyed clear communication and full language accessibility, whether onsite or remote.
