The Australian Defence Force hosted the 45th ICMM World Congress on Military Medicine in Brisbane. This event brought together military medical professionals for a five-day event featuring plenary and breakout sessions. The organisers required English and French interpretation in all sessions, with additional languages to support broader access for delegates. The objective was to deliver a multilingual experience that combined human interpretation and scalable AI speech translation.

Our Solution

​Congress Australia provided remote human interpreters in English and French for the main sessions to ensure clarity and accuracy. In five breakout rooms, we delivered AI Speech Translation into seven languages, with English as the floor language. This AI solution included custom glossaries, which were successfully implemented by the Congress team to provide more accurate key terminology during live AI interpretation.

Delegates accessed interpretation via their smartphones using QR codes displayed at room entrances and on presentation slides, removing the need for traditional receivers and reducing equipment on site. Audio and video from the onsite AV team were fully integrated into both the human and AI interpretation systems.

Headset Preparedness

Delegates were required to bring their own headsets, yet we anticipated that some may forget. Congress proactively supplied spare headsets and adapters compatible with all phone types, ensuring uninterrupted access to interpretation.
